Made popular by readers of the Senior News, Straight Talk originally was entitled "Director's Message" and was a monthly review of the Rapides Parish Council on Aging. Popularity grew and more and more readers began sending their questions on everything from marital advice to correct forms of etiquette.
Straight Talk was born as readers began to ask about Bettye's family, and in particular, "Mama, who was always right." Straight Talk is a collection of childhood memories, of family, in-laws, relatives near and dear, and friends have delighted readers for more than sixteen years.
Each month when it comes time to compose the monthly installment of "Straight Talk" so begins the nostalgic journey back to a golden time of family suppers, summer fireflies, the smell of fresh coffee, good conversation, and scent of a good cigar!
